Resting Figure

I now sketch the figure from life several times a week if I can, and it is the single activity that improves observational drawing skills more than any other. My historical background is as an illustrator, and I like the drawing, no matter how intensely laboured, to catch that split moment in time, to look as if the figure can get up and walk away. This study took nearly two hours. Others can take much longer.
